Shaktis on Fire (SOF) Vision

Coming from a family of sisters and watching the females head the extended family for three generations, it feels like natural destiny to be an empowerment coach for women.

The women who have undergone my training programs are called Shaktis on Fire (SOF). Shakti means goddess in Hindu and for reasons I have yet to comprehend, it is a word that I am very drawn to.

My burning vision

is the

empowerment of one million

Shaktis-on-Fire,

who have pledged to do

three million good deeds,

by my forty-eight birthday, making this an ambitious ten years mission!

This is a vision that truly sets my heart on fire.

Shakti on Fire Sparks (AIPP)

The four SOF sparks, which illuminates the heart of SOF training are

  1. Authenticity,

  2. Intuition,

  3. Pl@y! and

  4. Power.

The various programs focuses on training SOFs on one or more of the sparks. SOF will have to complete a program for each of the sparks.

Shakti on Fire Fulfillment

The four steps process of SOF fulfillment, in order of sequence, is

  1. Training,

  2. Commitment,

  3. Accountability and

  4. Achievement

    1. TRAINING

SOFs starts off by working on their own healing and empowerment, through courses made available online or by attending live workshops.

2. COMMITMENT

SOFs who wants to go beyond their own empowerment, to pay it forward, will sign the Shaktis-on-Fire (SOF) Empowerment Pledge.
They have declared to do three projects of their choice, to empower these 3 areas
1 ~ Family,
2 ~ Community,
3 ~ Humanity

3. ACCOUNTABILITY

SOFs will have an accountability partner, a fellow SOF, to ensure the completion of their three projects. They will declare their own deadlines.

4. ACHIEVEMENT

SOFs will announce the completion of their pledges and celebrate it in the Shaktis-on-Fire community and beyond.

One million Shaktis-on-Fire, three millions good deeds.

Are you one of us?

Dear fellow SOFs, I am so very proud of all of you.
Let’s continue to claim our natural birthright as Shaktis on Fire, and use our powerful flame to set the world ablaze with love, healing, wisdom, strength, courage and empowerment.

Time to fan the flames.

Shakti on Fire (SOF) 26 – Love Notes of 2016

What a spectacular year it has been. I couldn’t have it any better if I had planned it myself. I finally, finally, walked out from an unauthentic relationship. By dealing with the pain, it has taught me so much

  • about myself,
  • what I want for my life and
  • what I am capable of.

Most importantly, for the first time in my life, I had

self-compassion.

This year, I set the intention of focusing on building my reputation as an empowerment coach for women. I was blessed to be on several podcast interviews, mostly already launched. A few to look forward to in the new year.

I made the terrifying decision to come clean. With my imperfection, the insecurities that haunted me since I was a child, in the hope that it will bring comfort and inspiration to others who might feel lesser than they really are.

It was scary to put myself out there, wounded, naked, imperfect in the middle of the arena and say this is me, the real me. Everytime when I listen to my own podcast interviews, I freaked out, still disbelieving that I bared it all and feeling the extreme discomfort all over my body. But I chose to sat with it and

I chose to be happy in my discomfort,

staying committed to my truth and my authenticity.

I finally went to Ongkrong Primary School, in Cambodia, to visit the children.

For Our Children have helped raised S$12,000 last year to chip in to the rebuilding of the school. It was magical, seeing and experiencing the innocence of the children.

It burnt in me the desire to continue doing what we set out to do, raising funds to build schools in third world countries. We must take care of our children.

I went on a soul pilgrimage and took out warrior goddess training with Heather Ash Amara.

It was most definitely, one soul of a trip.

I went in fear, in hopes, alone,

with no certainty of what is going to happen.

Lots happened.

Firewalk too.

And I came home.

Reborn. On fire.

The trip ended up in a book on Amazon.

From Zero to Shakti.

It depicted my crazy adventures in Sedona. On Amazon.

I finally fulfilled my childhood promise to myself.

Authorship.

Who can be more blessed?

For whatever mysterious reasons, I avoided dance, the love of my life, for the longest time. I never understood why. It hurt me not to dance. But somehow, I cannot bring myself to it.

This year, I finally took baby steps to move myself to do what gave me joy. I went for my first Bachata World Festival

and I am starting to go for more social dance nights. My heart still feels nervous but it has started to sing.

I am surrounded by very loving people. Driven, passionate and loyal. They are like a protective invisible love shield that propels me forward in life. It has been a very fulfilling and productive year.

So much lies ahead. So much more to do. So much more to do. My vision burns on.

The uprising of one million Shaktis-on-Fire.

I look forward to meeting everyone of you.

Let’s burn brighter with our fierce love and passion.

What are you grateful for in 2016?

Joy

Authentic U 13 – Loving Our Children

I have a fund raising team, For Our Children (FOC) Singapore. We started in 2015 to raise funds to build schools in third world countries.

Ongkrong Primary School in Cambodia was our first project. We pledged to raise $12,000 to chip in to rebuild the school together with Tabitha Cambodia.

FOC 2015 Cert

2015-08-18 16.40.05

Last week we went to visit the school. It was a beautiful encounter with the children. My dream came true. After a challenging 2015 trying to raise the funds, it was so gratifying to walk into the school.

2016-07-14 00.29.45

2016-07-14 08.06.37

Frankly, I was a little nervous meeting the children. It was one thing to raise funds, it was another to see the children live. But when I saw the innocence in their eyes, I knew that it was all worth it. They had a safe place to come and enrich their minds.

IMG_1685

Listen to what the sweet children have to say. 🙂

How wonderful it is in life that we can enjoy giving to one another. We are indeed one and the same, of one consciousness. It was sheer pleasure to be in the presence of our beloved children.

IMG_1722

The pathway leading to the school was narrow, uneven and muddy. It was surrounded by murky water on either side.

The school was bare and dull. There was no sign of colours anywhere. It was bare grey floors everywhere. Brown wooden desks. And dirty white walls. I was not prepared for this sight. It caught me off-guard.

IMG_1805

So you can imagine our delight that we came prepared with the right gfits. We gave each student a box of colour pencils. Everyone deserves that in life. 🙂

IMG_1769

Seeing the children happily drawing away with their new toys, I felt a new life bubbling up in the otherwise spartan environment. Joy can be so simple.

IMG_1812

The children were barefoot.

IMG_1799

We saw a messy array of dirty small slippers lying carelessly outside the classrooms. That’s what walked them to school everyday. For some, it could be a daily 3km walk to school and another 3km back. But they came.

slippers

The children were clearly very bright and talented. From their drawings, we caught a glimpse of the children’s inner world. Their life, their living environments, their rich culture, their intimate connection with nature, their dreams and their hopes.

IMG_1816

IMG_1811

Listen to what an experienced Australian art teacher has to say about the students’ drawings.

I am so glad that they are not idling at home or peddling things to sell to put food on the table. This is exactly where they belong, in their school.

IMG_1788

Life is made beautiful by our giving to ourselves and to one another. It is impossible for what you give out to the universe not to come back to you in multiple folds.

IMG_1774

My heart has expanded as a result of this experience. I came back with my emotional bank account filled to the brim. It’s a most extraordinary sensation.

2016-07-15 00.13.00

We loved the children and gave them a school. When we went there, the love that came back moved me to tears. My heart glowed and expanded when I saw this message from the head teacher.

Ongkrong teacher

I am deeply grateful all who made the school possible by supporting FOC. Be it all the artistes, models, dancers, photographers, sponsors, FOC angels, FOC ambassadors and many others who used their talent and resources to make our fund raising activities a success.

Most of all, I want to show my absolute love and appreciation for FOC phoenixes, the ones who founded FOC together with me. Kate Lim, Iva Jo and Pang Siang, thank you. My eternal gratitude. Let’s march on. 🙂

As we continue on with our fund raising, we want to appeal for your continued support and love. Let’s end poverty by loving our children.

Let’s love our children by giving them their due education. Join us to take care of our next generation.

Shakti on Fire (SOF) 10 – I’m A Bad Influence

Excerpts from Bill Gate’s Speech –

For my part, I’m just happy that the Crimson called me

‘Harvard’s most successful dropout.’

I guess that makes me valedictorian of my own special class.

I did the best of everyone who failed.”

“But I also want to be recognized as the guy who got Steve Ballmer to drop out of business school. [Ballmer, now Microsoft’s CEO, was also there, sitting in the crowd behind Gates.]

I’m a bad influence.

That’s WHY

I was invited

to speak at your graduation.

“But taking a serious look back, I do have ONE BIG REGRET.

I left Harvard with NO REAL AWARENESS of the

awful inequities in the world

— the appalling DISPARITIES of health, and wealth, and opportunity that CONDEMN millions of people to

LIVES OF DESPAIR.

But humanity’s GREATEST ADVANCES are not in its discoveries, but in

how those discoveries are applied to

REDUCE INEQUITY.”

“We can make market forces

work better for the poor.

if we can develop a more creative capitalism — if we can stretch the reach of market forces so that more people can make a profit, or at least earn a living,

serving people who are suffering

from the great inequities.

We also can press governments around the world to spend taxpayer money in ways that better

reflect the values of the people

who pay the taxes.

“If we can find approaches that

meet the needs of the poor

in ways that generate profits for business and votes for politicians, we will have found a

sustainable way to reduce inequity in the world.

Now,

this task is OPEN-ENDED.

It can NEVER BE FINISHED.

But a CONSCIOUS EFFORT

to answer this challenge can change the world.”

“I remember going to the World Economic Forum some years back and sitting on a global health panel that was discussing ways to save millions of lives. Millions!

Think of the thrill if you could save just ONE person’s life

— then MULTIPLY that by millions.

Yet this was the most boring panel I’ve ever been on. Ever. So boring, even I couldn’t stand it.

“What made that experience especially striking was that I had just come from an event where we were introducing Version 13 of some piece of software, and we had people jumping and shouting with excitement. I love getting people excited about software — but

why can’t we generate even

MORE excitement for SAVING LIVES?

You can’t get people excited unless you can help them SEE and FEEL the impact.”

“Yes, inequity has been with us forever. But the new tools we have to cut through complexity have not been with us forever. They are new — they can help us

MAKE THE MOST OF OUR CARING

— and that’s why the future can be different from the past. The defining and ongoing innovations of this age —

biotechnology, the personal computer, and the Internet

— give us a chance we’ve

NEVER HAD BEFORE

to END extreme poverty and

END death from preventable disease.”

“You graduates are coming of age in an amazing time. As you leave Harvard, you have technology that members of my class never had.

You have awareness of global inequity, which we did not have.

And with that awareness, you likely also have an informed conscience that will torment you if you abandon these people whose lives you could change with modest effort.

You have more than we had.

You must start sooner,

and carry on longer.

“And I hope you will come back here to Harvard 30 years from now and

reflect on what you have done with your talent and your energy.

I hope you will judge yourselves not on your professional accomplishments alone, but also on

how well you have addressed the world’s deepest inequities

— on

how well you treated people a world away

who have NOTHING IN COMMON

with you

but THEIR HUMANITY.

“Good luck.”

Support Dare2 Dress

Greetings from Joylight!

#Dare2Dress

7 – 11 March 2016

Dare to dress like your hero and change someone’s life forever!

The #Dare2Dress 2016 campaign is the ultimate fund-raiser to help unemployed women find confidence and work that will build a future for themselves and their families. Join in the challenge by dressing up as your hero/heroine at work, school, or play and ask your supporters to donate to our cause.

In conjunction with International Women’s Day, #Dare2Dress 2016 challenges you to step out of your comfort zone to demonstrate the courage that disadvantaged women need, to overcome barriers to economic independence. Your participation and donations will go to Image Mission Ltd to run the Dress for Success Singapore programme.

We want to demonstrate the courage that women in Singapore need to overcome their disadvantage when stepping out into the working world.  #Dare2Dress is a fun way to do this, so we can achieve the following objectives:

  • To recognize and instill the courage that disadvantaged women need to overcome barriers to achieve economic independence.

  • To engage all sectors in the community to support our cause – everyone can participate.

  • To promote the spirit of giving (in time, money or in-kind)

Be-bold

Take up the challenge to dress like your ‘hero’ and register online. Donors select who they support by donating to our charity.

Participate as an individual or team (more fun this way!) and dress in your hero’s outfit for a specified time, eg. at work, lunch time, or dining out.

SoulFul 30 -Haruka Nishimatsu

The airline industry is going through rough times, but Japan Airlines is still managing to fly high, winning the “Airline Turnaround Award” from the Center for Asia Pacific Aviation.

JAL’s chief executive is largely responsible for maneuvering his company through aggressive reforms as he takes “sharing the pain” to a whole new level.

After his morning commute on the city bus, Haruka Nishimatsu heads into the office and gets busy at his desk with the rest of his Japan Airlines co-workers.

At lunch, he lines up in the cafeteria and hopes his meal doesn’t get cold as he waits to pay.  It’s not exactly the glamourous life you’d expect from the CEO of one of the world’s top ten international airlines.

Perhaps that’s why, then JAL slashed jobs and asked older employees to retire early, Nishimatsu cut every single one of this corporate perks.  Then for three years running he slashed his own pay.  He made about $90,000 last year, less than what his pilots earn.

Nishimatsu says, “The employees who took early retirement are the same generation and age as me.  I thought I should share the pain with them.  So I changed my salary.”

Nishimatsu shrugs it off, saying it’s not a big deal.  But that certainly stands in contrast to CEOs in the United States being grilled by Congress over perceived corporate excesses and balooning salaries and bonuses.

When Nishimatsu was told the top-paid U.S. CEOs make tens of millions, in some cases nearly $200 million a year, he expressed surprise, and when he was asked whether he could imagine making that much, he said, “Noooo.”

In Japan, says Nishimatsu, there’s less of a pay gap between the top and the bottom:  “We in Japan learned during the bubble economy that businesses who pursue money first fail.  The business world has lost sight of this basic tenet of business ethics.”

He says his airline has a long, difficult recovery ahead.  As far as his pay, he’s dug into his savings like many other people.  “The air conditioning broke, and the water heater, and the car. My wife is still telling me, this is all your fault.”

But relating to what his employees and his passengers are feeling and living in the global slowdown might be the ticket to his own airline’s survival.

He made the choice to cut his own bonuses. His need to care for others by sharing the pain of the troubled times was greater than the need for material comforts.

What an inspirational example of leading by example. 🙂

  • How can you up it one small notch?
